At the centre of the LPU Protest is an allegation that remains under investigation. Students believed that a female student had been sexually assaulted inside a girls' hostel. The university denied that the incident happened and called the allegation false and fabricated. Police, meanwhile, registered an FIR against an unidentified person and formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT).

 

That difference matters.

When the Protest Became Violent

 

The LPU Protest did not remain peaceful.

 

Reports described damage to university property, vandalism, fires, attacks on vehicles and a blockade of the Jalandhar-Phagwara National Highway. Police personnel were also injured during clashes.

 

Some dramatic images from the campus showed protesters climbing on a decommissioned aircraft and a military tank placed on the premises. Reports also described damage to shops and other property.

On September 28, university authorities said calm had returned and that the campus was safe. Vice-Chancellor Jaspal Singh said student representatives were unanimous that outsiders had entered the campus unlawfully and contributed to the unrest. That claim itself concerns the cause of the violence and should be understood as the university's position while the matter is examined.

 

The Video Controversy

 

There is another important development.

 

LPU released a video featuring three female students from the hostel as part of its response to the allegations. Later, the three students reportedly said that they had been instructed about what to say and that the video had been edited and posted without their consent. They also said they faced abusive comments afterward.

 

These are now additional claims that require careful examination.

 

They should not automatically be treated as proven facts either.

 

The larger lesson is simple: in a crisis, every statement needs context.

 

Social Media Can Spread Fear in Minutes

This creates a dangerous psychological pattern.

 

First comes information.

That does not mean every social-media claim is false. It means that serious claims require serious verification.

 

My View: A Protest Should Protect Human Dignity

 

Here I want to add my personal philosophical view, influenced by the ideas I have learned from Osho.

 

Osho often spoke about awareness rather than unconscious reaction. For me, that idea is useful here—not as a judgment on the students, but as a question for all of us.

 

What happens when anger becomes stronger than awareness?

 

A student may begin with a genuine desire for justice. But if the crowd becomes emotionally charged, individual thinking can become weaker.

 

Justice needs courage.

 

But justice also needs awareness.

 

If someone has committed a crime, the answer should be investigation and lawful action.

 

If an allegation is false, that truth should also emerge through evidence.

 

In both situations, violence makes the path harder.

 

What Students Can Learn From the LPU Protest

 

The first lesson is to verify before sharing.

 

The second is to protest peacefully when you want accountability.

 

The third is to allow investigators to collect evidence.

 

The fourth is to remember that people who have nothing to do with an incident can also be harmed when violence spreads.

 

And perhaps the most important lesson is this:

 

Do not let a crowd make your decisions for you.

 

Think.

 

Ask.

 

Verify.

 

Then act.

 

What Happens Next?

 

The LPU Protest has already changed the immediate academic routine. Classes have been suspended for 10 days and examinations postponed. Police investigations are continuing, while the university has maintained its denial of the alleged campus sexual assault.

 

The final truth must come from evidence, not from the loudest slogan, the most viral video or the strongest emotion.
